Team Football Training yr 5 and 6 boys

On Tuesdays I will be running, with the help of Mr Sprowson for 2 months and Ollie, the football team training sessions.    These sessions are aimed at boys in year 5 and 6 who have experience of playing in a team or who have a good understanding of the game.  If your son is new to football and needs to build up his skills then Charlie Boswell's football club on Wednesday would be more appropriate.

I will be running 2 teams, each of which will compete in their own league against other schools in St Albans.  There will be a small amount of movement in the selection, but unfortunately some boys who attend training might not be able to play for either team over the season.  I will however try to ensure I arrange some friendly games so that they can experience playing competitively against other schools.
At the end of the season there will be a year 6 tournament and a year 5 tournament.

Lifts:  If your son is picked to play it would be great if you could help at least once with lifts.  I will publish on the sports calendar all match dates to help you.  Unfortunately without help the boys will not be able to play.

Kit:  Please ensure all kit is returned promptly, washed and in the school bag provided.

Match equipment:  When we play at home I need to move the 2 goals and corner flags down to the bottom pitch and back after the game.  It would be lovely to have some help doing this, especially after the game when I know you all want to go home.  I like to encourage the boys to help, so please remind them after a match.

Refereeing:  At home games we need to provide a referee.  If any dads or mums would be willing to help that would be great as I can then support the boys from the side line.

Finally....there is a code of conduct for parents attending games that I will be asking all parents who have a son playing to sign.  I will also talk to the boys about their behaviour off and on the pitch.  Any unacceptable behaviour may result in them being taken off the pitch, this includes excessive goal celebration.   I should mention that I have been running the team for 4 years and I have never had a problem of poor behaviour from any of the children, indeed they have always been a credit to the school and I expect the same will be true this year.

I look forward to a successful season and working with the boys.  The most important thing is for the boys to have FUN!

Thank you
Mrs Astley
