Cross Country Meet Colney Heath

Well done to all the children who took part in the first Cross Country League meet at Colney Heath.  There were some great results, including Joe who finished 6th  and Max who finished 12 in the boys race.  Also Francesca who finished 36th in the girls race.   I think all the children learnt from this event and are looking to improve on their finish positions next time.  I am really proud of you all.

Football match v Killigrew

The boys A team played Killigrew today at Killigrew.  It was a tight game, but our boys played really well, with some lovely passes.  In the first half Flynn scored from a penalty and then again in the second half, with the final result 2-0 to us.  A great start to the season.  Well done boys.

Football Game v Wheatfields

What a great start to the season for the B team playing their first league game against Wheatfields B team.  It was a very exciting game with some strong performances from many of the boys.  We led 1-0, and then 2-1, finishing the first half 2-2.  In the second half we were a bit stronger and scored 2 more goals so that the final result was 4-2 to us.  Well done boys.

Penalty Shoot Out

On Saturday 10 boys took part in a penalty shoot out competition during the St Albans City game at their home ground in Clarence Park and enjoyed watching a great game of football.  The boys formed a guard of honour with the other 3 schools as the two teams came out on to the pitch.  Then at half time the boys went onto the pitch to take their penalties.  We were drawn against Skyswood.   Jack was great in goal, saving 8 of their shots, while the rest of the boys managed to put 7 past the Skyswood keeper.   This means we go through to the next round which will take place in January, which will no doubt be a little colder!   Congratulations to the boys who took part.  Thanks to the parents who brought them and the other children from the school who came along to support.

Team Football Training yr 5 and 6 boys

On Tuesdays I will be running, with the help of Mr Sprowson for 2 months and Ollie, the football team training sessions.    These sessions are aimed at boys in year 5 and 6 who have experience of playing in a team or who have a good understanding of the game.  If your son is new to football and needs to build up his skills then Charlie Boswell's football club on Wednesday would be more appropriate.

I will be running 2 teams, each of which will compete in their own league against other schools in St Albans.  There will be a small amount of movement in the selection, but unfortunately some boys who attend training might not be able to play for either team over the season.  I will however try to ensure I arrange some friendly games so that they can experience playing competitively against other schools.
At the end of the season there will be a year 6 tournament and a year 5 tournament.

Lifts:  If your son is picked to play it would be great if you could help at least once with lifts.  I will publish on the sports calendar all match dates to help you.  Unfortunately without help the boys will not be able to play.

Kit:  Please ensure all kit is returned promptly, washed and in the school bag provided.

Match equipment:  When we play at home I need to move the 2 goals and corner flags down to the bottom pitch and back after the game.  It would be lovely to have some help doing this, especially after the game when I know you all want to go home.  I like to encourage the boys to help, so please remind them after a match.

Refereeing:  At home games we need to provide a referee.  If any dads or mums would be willing to help that would be great as I can then support the boys from the side line.

Finally....there is a code of conduct for parents attending games that I will be asking all parents who have a son playing to sign.  I will also talk to the boys about their behaviour off and on the pitch.  Any unacceptable behaviour may result in them being taken off the pitch, this includes excessive goal celebration.   I should mention that I have been running the team for 4 years and I have never had a problem of poor behaviour from any of the children, indeed they have always been a credit to the school and I expect the same will be true this year.

I look forward to a successful season and working with the boys.  The most important thing is for the boys to have FUN!

Thank you
Mrs Astley

Welcome back

We are only 3 days into the new term and already the diary is filling up with sporting activities, please keep a check on the sports calendar for updates.
Most clubs restart next week (w/c 8th Sept.), except for netball which will start a week later.
Please make sure you have returned the forms if you want your child to take part in any of the clubs.

Thank you
Mrs Astley
