Mini Marathon 2013

A Brilliant Afternoon...

On Friday 27th September, Bernards Heath Junior School held our 2nd Annual Mini Marathon.  The course was set around the perimeter of the school grounds (430m).  Most children averaged around 15 laps during the afternoon, however members of our cross-country running team and eager runners completed 30 laps (12.9km)!!  Amazing!
Congratulations to Joe (1st) and James (2nd) for completing 12.9km and to Ellen (fastest girl)

News on the amount raised will follow shortly...

Mini Marathon 2013

On Friday 27th September we will be holding our annual Mini Marathon for all the children to participate in.  We are hoping children will be sponsored to run or walk as many laps as they can around the school.  The money raised will go toward purchasing Tablet PCs for the school to benefit your children and their learning.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to have fun while keeping active!

Skipping workshops

Skipping is a great way to improve fitness while having fun!  On 16th and 17th of October we will be running skipping workshops.  Every class will have the opportunity to take part in a session with a specialist skipping instructor, who will be teaching them a few new skipping moves!   Skipping is something that can be done at home and school, so we hope this will encourage children to be more active with their skipping ropes.   Skipping ropes will be available to purchase.

Football: Wix cup

19th September.
We played Wheatfields in the Wix Cup.  The boys played very well, with an excellent first goal from James, winning 3-2.  They now go through to the next round.

Respect Code of Conduct

All parents/carers who come to support their children in football matches will need to sign a Respect Code of Conduct agreement which will be attached to the first permission letter their child receives, if they play in any matches.  This is in line with all Primary schools in St Albans taking part in the football leagues.  As a school we fully support this initiative and hope our parents will do the same.

RESPECT CODE OF CONDUCT:

 Spectators and parents/carers

I will

  • Remember that children play for FUN
  • Applaud effort and good play as well as success
  • Always respect the match officials' decisions
  • Remain outside the field of play and within the designated spectators' area (where provided)
  • Let the coach do their job and not confuse players by telling them what to do
  • Encourage the players to respect the opposition, referee and match officials
  • Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake - mistakes are part of learning
  • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour
