EDSV football day

To continue to celebrate National Sports Week EDSV football academy visited the school and led each class in a short football taster session.  It was great fun for all the children who were able to take part in a number of activites.

School Games Day

Over the last 2 Mondays the children have taken part in the School Games Day.  On the first Monday it was the track events including; traditional running races and space hopper relay, dressing up relay and obstacle course.  Then on the second Monday all the children took part in a carousel of  mini sporting activities in their house groups to win as many points as they could.  The scores from all the activities were added together and Emerald House were declared winners.
Well done to all the children. Thank you to the parents who helped and those who came to support.

District Sports

Last Tuesday and Wednesday a number of children from all year groups took part in the annual District Sports at Westminster Lodge.  On Tuesday it was the field events including; high jump, long jump and throw and also the 4 x 100 metre relay for our year 6 team.  Every one tried their best and we had some good results to give us a healthy score going in to Thursday's track events.   On Thursday there were teams from every year group competing and again we had some fantastic effort from the children.  At the end of the afternoon we were all very excited waiting to find out where we had come.   It was a lovely surprise to find that we finished joint 1st for the girls' team and 2nd overall when the boys' and girls' scored were added together.
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to the parents who came and supported.

Cricket Match v Killigrew

Last week our cricket team played a match against Killigrew.  It was very close with some excellent batting, bowling and fielding skills in evidence.   With just 7 runs in it Killigrew won and went forward to the county finals.

Circus Skills

As part of National Sports Week the children had an amazing Circus Skills session.  They learnt how to balance a peacock feather on one finger, their upper lip and shoulder.  They were also taught how to juggle and then had an opportunity to try out mini bikes and unicycles.  We all had lots of fun and at the end of the session a sense of achievement having mastered some of the skills.

Year 3 and 4 basketball festival

Today 16 children from year 3 and 4 took part in the Oaklands Wolves Basketball Festival at Oaklands college. The children began by taking part in activities run by 4 coaches who have all played basketball for English or Hungarian national teams. After the coaching, the teams were split into 2 pools and they each had some fun friendly matches.

All of the children enjoyed themselves and I hope a few have been inspired to take part in more basketball in the future.

St Albans Half Marathon and Fun Run

On Sunday 11th, it was lovely to see so many friendly faces down at Westminster Lodge and Verulamium park for the 36th Annual St Albans Half Marathon and Fun Run. The weather was lovely and everyone had a great time running. as in the previous 3 years we have gathered a huge crowd of Bernards Heath runners for the fun run and even some of the children from the upper school running the 5K.

A big congratulations must go to Mrs Hall who ran the half marathon coming in with a time under 2 and a half hours and Mrs Skillett who did the walking half marathon.

While we all enjoyed some Sunday morning fitness and sunshine we were all there for one reason and I am happy to confirm that for the 3rd year in a row we won the schools challenge.

Well done to all that took part!

World Games Day

On Friday a group of Year 4 children and two of our Sports Ambassadors  attended the World Games Day event at Oaklands College.  They had an amazing day full of fun sporting activities including; American football, tag rugby, football, athletics and ball skills.   At lunch time they cheered on sheep competing in their own racing!
The children were all a credit to the school and we were very proud of them.
Thanks to Mrs Skillett for taking the children.
