Football A team match v Killigrew
Well here we are at the start of a new season. Our first game was away against Killigrew and the boys were very excited to get the match played. Unfortunately within the first 2 minutes Killigrew had scored. But our boys getting battling and had several attempts on goal. Eventually, just before half time Oscar scored (he assured me later that it was a shot and not a cross that went in!) In the second half the teams were evenly matched and despite our best efforts we weren't able to score again. So our first game ended in a well deserved draw.
Cross Country Meet
Last Thursday our new cross country team took part in their first meet at Colney Heath. For some of the children it was their first experience of cross country running against other children, but they all took it in their stride and did very well. Charlie was our top boy runner coming in at 28th and for the girls Francesca came in at 21st. (sorry I forgot the camera, a picture will follow after the next meet!)

Mini Marathon 2015
Today saw the 2015 edition of the Bernards Heath Mini Marathon. Over the previous week the children have done a great job collecting sponsors for the fun run. On Friday afternoon the children ran their hearts out to raises as much money for each lap of the school they could complete!
From the year group starts, lead by 2 of the schools Sports ambassadors Olivia and Jack, the children ran hard and enjoyed a very pleasent afternoon. by the end, a very large number of children managed the full 30 laps (I hope you all have deep pockets), but special mention must go to Charlie and Francesca from Year 6 who were the first boy and girl respectively to finish the 30!
During the run Mrs Wood also measured the 1 lap distance at 450 meters, meaning that any child completing the full 30 laps has run a total of 13.5 km!
Below are some pictures of the afternoon, including the '30 lap club'!

Sports Ambassadors Peer Leaders Programme
Our new Sports Ambassadors where lucky enough to be invited to Peer Leaders training on the 16th September which was held at the University of Bedford. The children were first given an inspirational speech by a local Olympian and Paralympian before being split into groups with other schools from across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
The Ambassadors took part in a range of activities to demonstrate inclusive games and competitions that they could run themselves when returning to school. Workshops in motivational skills and how to adapt games to make them more inclusive followed.
All the children had a great time learning lots at this great opportunity, to which very few schools where invited. We look forward to the Ambassadors implementing the skills they learnt during the day to help raise participation in sport across the school.

Netball Club 2015 Autumn Term
Netball Club will start on Monday 7th September with trials. This club is open to Yr 6 and Yr 5 but we can only accommodate 30 children. The league matches will be played by the Yr 6 children but there will be an opportunity for all the children to be involved in friendly matches as well. If it is raining on a Monday afternoon, then the club will be cancelled.
We expect attendance every week and if they are unable to attend, then Miss Brown or Mrs Withers should be informed. All children will need trainers with a good grip as the outside surfaces can be quite slippery when wet.
