Mini Triathalon

Today 32 boys and girls from all the year groups took part in a mini-triathalon at The Samuel Ryder Academy.  The triathalon was made up of three events; 70m swim, 800m  cycle and a 400m run which the children completed in quick succession.  It was a lovely event which the children all enjoyed taking part in and all of them revieved a rather nice medal.

Football trials for the school football team

I will be running 2 football teams next year, both of which have been entered into leagues.
On Friday over 40 boys from year 5 and year 6 expressed an interest to play for the school football teams.  Unfortunately I cannot take that number of boys for the training sessions, which will start in September, and therefore I will be running 2 trials from which 20 boys will be selected to make up the two teams.
The trials will be held on Tuesday 14th July and Tuesday 8th September.  Your son will be told which one to attend.
I know there will be many disappointed boys, but they will still be able to attend Charlie Boswell's football club on Wednesdays and I will arrange friendly games for them. There is also year 6 and year 5 tournaments at the end of the year.

If your son is picked to attend the team training sessions they will be run on Tuesdays, but the matches could be played on any evening of the week.  I will expect the boys to attend every session, and certainly they should let me know if they are unable to attend.  It is important that the boys understand that it is a privilege to represent the school and as such their behaviour during training and matches should be exemplary.  Any boy who misses too many training sessions or does not behave appropriately will be replaced in the team.

Girls 6 a side football tournament

The Girls Football team attended the annual St Albans 6 a side football tournament on Saturday at Fleetville school. On a very warm morning the girls were placed in a group with Killegrew, Bowmans Green and Skyswood schools.

The girls who were picked from Year 6 to Year 4 played excellently in the group stages. in the first game they controlled the ball well, dominating the match, and hit the post twice. Unfortunately they couldn't quite make the breakthrough drawing the game 0-0. Then came a very strong Bowmans Green team. thought the girls played excellently and had a few good chances the game was lost after a couple of good strikes from the Bowmans Green star player.

So the group came down to the final game against Skyswood. A win would see the girls through to the quarterfinals. Again the girls played excellently, dominating possession throughout much of the match. However, one momentary loss of concentration allowed Skyswood to score the opening goal and try as could our girls couldn't convert their possession into a goal, meaning we were out of the competition.

The girls should hold their heads high after a difficult season which we will look to build on next year. Thank you again to all the parents who came along to support the girls on Saturday.

FA Girls Football Festival

On Thursday 8 year 3 and 4 girls attended the FA Girls Football Festival.  It was a fantastic morning with lots of different activities for the girls to try.  They started by taking part in a mini tournament,  which they all enjoyed.  Later they had a referee master class, goal shooting, speed shots and much more.  It was a lovely experience for all the girls who will hopefully continue with their interest in football.
