Wix Cup Football A team v Mount Pleasant Lane
On Tuesday the A team played against Mount Pleasant Lane in the 1st round of the Wix Cup. Mount Pleasant Lane quickly scored in the first half, but we responded with 2 great goals to take the lead at the end of the first half. In the second half MPL came back again with 2 quick goals. In really difficult conditions, rain and high wind the boys battled on. In the last few minutes of the game we were awared a penalty to take the final score to 3-3.
As it was a cup game it went to extra time but neither team could score so we now replay the game!
Well done boys.

St Albans District Basketball Festival 20th Oct
On Monday the Basketball Club had the chance to draw together all their hard work and training at the annual basketball festival held at Oaklands College. All the children were excited to represent the school and build on the first games we had already played against Garden Fields.
The children were split into 2 teams and placed in 2 of the four pools at the competition. Both teams played exceptionally well showing all the work and training on their basic skills has really paid off.
Team A who played in pool 2 managed to win one of their 5 games, whilst pushing some very good experienced teams very close in their other matches, finishing 5th in their pool.
Team B Who played in pool 3 played some exciting games and managed to win 3 of there 5 games finishing 3rd in their pool. In addition to their good results, It must be noted that they only lost by one basket in their pool to the eventual tournament winners.
All the children played brilliantly but special mention must go to Ray and Francisca who were the top point scores for the teams scoring 10 and 14 points respectively over their 5 games played.
Well done to both teams and a big thank you to All the parents who helped with lifts to the tournament and Mr Lovett for helping coach one of the 2 teams.
(Photos to follow)
Basketball Club will now be continuing until Christmas so i hope to see all the basketballers friday after school through the next half term.

Girls Football Team, District Cup vs Fleetville Tuesday 14th
Last Tuesday the girls traveled to Fleetville to play their first competitive game of the season. Being the first round of the cup the girls knew they had to be on top form from the start and were keen to get going.
Unfortunately a level of inexperience of competitive games was shown as the girls played really well but eventually succumbed to the Fleetville goal threat. The girls continued to play excellently and showed great improvement as the came progressed becoming more and more threatening with the ball in our possession. However, the girls did not manage to turn more possession into goal scoring opportunities and have therefore, been knocked out of the cup.
We now must move onto the league and hope for better results there.
A big thank you to those parents who helped with lifts and gave their support from the sidelines.

Basketball Friendly vs Garden Fields 12th Oct
The Basketball Club played their first full matches against Garden Fields on Friday the 12th of October. The friendlies were organised to give both schools a taste of the competition to come in the following district basketball competition. Both teams did exceptionally well as it was their first full game played for the school, winning 1 of the four matches played.
Although all the scores didn't exactly go the way the children might have liked valuable lessons were learnt moving forward to the main competition being held at Oaklands on the 20th.

Cross Country
Yesterday our cross country team took part in the 2nd meet at Garden Fields. The course was 3 times around their field which had a slight incline at one end. Unfortunately we had a couple of girls missing, but all the children were fantastic. Joe again did well coming third this time.

Netball Club
Unfortunately Netball Club was cancelled again due to the weather.
The club now consists of 40 children and with this number it is impossible to move the club in to the school hall. The flooring is unsuitable and the space is inadequate for completing drills or playing games. The hall is often booked so this is also a factor.
We try to look at the forecast and make the call to cancel earlier rather than later, hoping to give all parents enough warning to collect children.

Football A team v Fleetville
On Thursday the boys A team played against Fleetville in a league game. As usual it was a close game, we passed well and had a shots on goal but nothing in the first half would go in. In the second half it was again close, we battled hard and eventually Joe managed to put one part their keeper. I should also mention Jack in goal who kept a clean sheet with some super saves.
Well done boys and thank you to Mr Burgess for helping out as referee.

Bronze Ambassador Training 3rd Oct
On Friday 3rd of October the School Sports Ambassadors and I were invited to the Bronze Ambassador training held at the David Lloyd leisure center in Hatfield.
The children very much enjoyed their day learning how to be effective leaders of the sports crew and how to coach the younger children in the school in sporting activities. The ambassadors and their sports crew have already put into action some of the ideas shared on the training day and I am looking forward to working with them over the coming weeks and months to organise and run the amazing sports events and ideas they plan to put into action throughout the school.
Keep an eye out for updates in assemblies and on the sports blog about the events and competitions!
Below, find some pictures of the ambassadors at the training event.

Mini Marathon 26th Sept
The yearly Mini Marathon was held at school on the 26th of September with all the children across the school taking part. All had a great time running keeping fit and raising money for our school and 'Rose's' school in Kenya, a school we have now supported for many years.
All the children did brilliantly across year groups, all beating previous bests, with many Year 3's completing 10+ laps, Year 4's completing 15+ and a number of children in Years 5/6 completing the full 30.
Special mention must go to Joe in Year 6 and Francesca in Year 5 who were the first finishers for the boys and girls respectively.
We have already raised a large amount of sponsors, but please keep collecting and sending your sponsorship as the proceeds have been earmarked to help improve the schools playgrounds.
Please find below a number of pictures from the Event

Boys B team v Sandridge
On Tuesday our football B team played against Sandridge. It was a very evenly matched game and the first half ended with no goals being scored. Then in the second half Sandridge scored their first goal, our heads went down a little and they scored a second soon after. We then took the fight to them and scored a super goal. It was a very exciting last 5 minutes, with a scramble in the box which resulted with Tommy managing to score an equaliser. I think it was a very well deserved draw and I was proud of the boys.

A team football vs Bowmans Green
On Wednesday the A team played in the St Albans City Cup first round against Bowmans Green. It was an excellent game with lots of attempts on goal at both ends. All the boys played very well. The final result was 3-1 to us. This means we go through to the next round. Thanks to Mr Sprowson for refereeing.
Year 4 Cross Country
On Wednesday a group of year 4 children took part in a cross country meet at Wheatfields School. This was the first time a lot of the children had taken part in a cross country event and they all ran very well. A special mention to Bruno who came 3rd in the boys event and Alba who came in the top 10 for the girls.
