School Games Day

Well, the weather was eventually kind to us and our School Games Day took place on Monday.  In the morning year 6 and year 5, followed by year 4 and year 3 held their sprint races and their relay races which included; racket and ball relay, dressing up relay and obstacle relay as well as the house group relay. The year 6 Sports Ambassadors did a fantastic job organising all the relay races so that the event ran very smoothly. All the children had an opportunity to race and everyone had lots of fun earning lots of points for their house group.
Then in the afternoon we moved onto the multi-sport carousel. The children took part in their house groups earnnig points for completing various activities.  We were very impressed with the leadership of the year 6 and the team spirit of each group.
At the end of the afternoon, after all the points had been added up we finally had a School Games Day winner.
Congratulations to Emerald, 2016 winners.
Thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children and to Mr Hill who ran one of the activities.

St Albans Fun Run

On Sunday, it was lovely to see so many smiling Bernards Heath faces, despite the rain, down at Verulamium Park for the Fun Run. All the children had lots of fun (as did myself, Miss Ferry, Mrs Gilbert, Miss Honeybell and Miss Jones) running the 1.5 mile course. A big thank you for all the parents who braved the weather to either run along side or cheer around the course. All did very well with Bernards Heath pupils not only running the 1.5 mile fun run, but also some of the older children the 5k.

All the children's entries (Fun Run and 5k) went together with the Infants school and amazingly, with the highest percentage of children running, we won the schools challenge for a second year.

Special mention must also go to our Staff members Mrs Astley, Mrs Skillett and Mrs Hall who all completed the full half marathon distance and Mrs Wood, who left our school in the spring term, completing the 5k.

In addition to the official competition, in school we ran a competition for the class who had the most runners taking part. Congratulations to 4H who won with 16 pupils from the class running on Sunday.

Mr Brown

The mass of Bernards Heath runners at the start! More next year I hope!

Keen to get started!
Very pleased with there medals (and popcorn).

Not sure it was quite ice lolly weather, but they still went down a treat!
