National Sports Week Day 1

Monday:
City Youth Football Club organised multi-sports for the classes.  All the children had fun taking part in football, running, rounders and netball.  Tom from City Football club also spoke at our assembly about his experience taking part in last years Olympic torch relay, showing the children the torch he held.

St Albans Sports Legacy Day 2014

On Thursday we were invited to take part in the St Albans Sports Legacy Day along with some other schools from St Albans and Harpenden, in fact there were about 1000 children there.  Not wanting anyone to miss out we took 270 children !!!! (Years 3, 4 and 5).  In the  morning the children had fun trying out a variety of sporting activities, all organised by young leaders.  Just before lunch Rebecca Adlington , the Olympic swimmer gave some children medals for showing Olympic spirit during the activities in the morning.   Then after lunch the children took part in sprint and relay races.

The whole day was a fantastic experience for the children and they all had a huge amount of fun while being active.  It was a great way to launch our Sports week which runs next week.

District Sports

On Tuesday and Thursday children from all year groups represented the school in District Sports.   On Tuesday it was the turn of year 6 in the field events (throwing, long jump and high jump) and 100 m relay.  In the relay the boys narrowly missed getting into the final and in the high jump Lottie came 2nd.  On Thursday it was the track events, with some of our year 3 children competing for the first time at this level.   Quite a few of our children got through their heat to run in the finals, with Cameron and Kobi both winning their finals.  In the year 4 boys shuttle relay our boys  won a very close race and James came 2nd in the 600 m, a fantastic run.When all the scores had been added up from both the track and field events our boys came 3rd over all, well done boys.

St Albans School Sports Legacy Event 2014

On Thursday year 3,4 and 5 have been invited to the St Albans School Sports Legacy event at Westminster Lodge. The event promises to be a day full of exciting sport and the chance to work with children from other schools. Rebecca Adlington who is the Olympic swimmer will also be attending the event.

National Sports Week w/c 23rd June

Next week is National Sports Week so the children will have fun taking part in additional sporting activities.

• On Monday and Tuesday City Youth Football Club's young apprentices are visiting the school to lead a carousel of sporting activities for each year group.  
• On Thursday Premier Sport is visiting the school to lead 1/2 hour fencing taster sessions for each class.
• Mrs Gilbert will be leading Zumba sessions for each class.
• On Friday the children will be taking part in a sponsored skip to raise money for the NSPCC

I am sure the children will enjoy the week and hope you will support them in the sponsored skip.
